Although the forecast at the weekend was for rain, in Dunfanaghy we had clear blue skies and very little wind - more like a good summer day than mid-January in Donegal.
We still have 6” placing on the fairways at present with no dropping off into the semi rough as the course is still in fine shape with the warm conditions. On Saturday we ran a new competition for Dunfanaghy Golf Club which was the “yellow ball” competition where each team is given a marked yellow ball and it is then played as a 4BBB format with the players taking turns to play the yellow ball. With the calm weather the scoring was superb and 86 points walked away with the prize on the day. Sunday was another great day and especially for our past Secretary, Cairns Witherow, who got his first “hole in one” on the 9th hole. Cairns followed this up with a super score of 42 points for his round as well. Dunfanaghy's Gaeltacht team were away to Rosapenna on Saturday but the result was not good for Dunfanaghy at all. Playing the Sandy Hills course in Rosapenna was more than the team could manage. Food is still being served at weekends in the club house and Chef Paddy is busy as usual cooking up some culinary delights for us all. Next week is the start of the Six Nation Rugby. The one and only Paul Smyth has managed to get a Big Screen and Projector organised to enable viewing in style in the clubhouse. Paul is hoping to have things sorted for next weekend.
