Having secured two magnificent home victories by Brendan McGrath & Sandra McGinley (3&2) and Daniel McColgan & Mary Lafferty (6&5), it was left to the Dunfanaghy pairings of Peadar & Sadie-Marie Curran, Brian Dolan & Heather Hamilton and team captain Bill McCallion playing with Deirdre Farry to take on Castlerock on their home turf. Husband and wife Peadar & Sadie-Marie put up a tremendous fight but were beaten on the 16th. Brian & Heather, who had lead for much of their round, were eventually edged out on the 17th. Bill & Deirdre were locked in a titanic battle with their Castlerock duo which had included an eagle 2 at the par 4 6th hole. All square on the 16th tee, Deidre almost holed her tee shot for a gimme birdie to win the hole. Castlerock responded with a superb par on the challenging 17th. All square and all to play for as the 2 couples headed for the 18th tee now followed by a sizeable crowd. The Castlerock duo couldn’t have played the hole any better with a superb drive followed by a magnificent mid iron to the heart of the green - a nailed on par. Dunfanaghy bounced back when Deirdre pitched superbly to the elevated green leaving Bill with a challenging downhill 15 footer to force a play-off. Putt just missed, victory was handed to Castlerock. The matches were played with tremendous spirit and sportsmanship. We would like to thank our Dunfanaghy team-mates for their commitment and camaraderie and we wish Castlerock every success in the 4th round.
