Dear Member
We would like to thank all those who helped to make the Caravaners a most successful event. A special thank you to those who very generously sponsored tees, and to those, known and anonymous, who donated money and prizes. The quiz was kindly hosted by Jim Moore. It was most enjoyable, but poorly supported. Next year ‘we must do better’! Thanks to the juveniles for looking after the putting competition which, along with the quiz and raffle, raised €360 towards the €800 donation to the Donegal Mental Health Services charity. Thank you to Bernie O’Neill for attending the presentation and thank you and your colleagues for your most important work. A balance of over €4000 was raised and, as previously stated, there will be a substantial contribution towards a course improvement initiative, and this will be determined after further discussion. We are pleased to say that next year’s Caravaners will be organised by Graham and Natalie Cummings and Mark Caithness Thank you all, and we hope this traditional ‘end of summer’ competition continues to thrive and be enjoyed. This Saturday 17th August is our Captain John McKendry’s big day. The festivities start with a scramble at 4pm tomorrow evening and we look forward to seeing you all there. We wish Captain John well and we hope the weather is favourable. Captain John is looking forward to seeing as many members as possible on Saturday.Everyone is welcome for coffee and scones before Golf (Richard is also cooking up a very "healthy" fry !!) After Golf there will be a super buffet of poached salmon with mayonnaise, prawns with Marie rose sauce cooked whole ham with mustard on the side, cold breast of chicken with salads...potato, couscous, eggs with mayonnaise and healthy salad leaves. Also freshly baked wheaten bread (and chips!) Ladies will be warmed with Richard's homemade soup and choices of sandwiches. This year the Captain’s chosen charity is the Jack and Jill Foundation and instead of bringing gifts he would appreciate it very much if you would make a donation to this very worthy cause. This foundation gives home support to families with a profoundly injured child. They are currently working with 9 families in Donegal and have supported 62 families in the last 22 years. There will be Jack and Jill literature in the Clubhouse and donation points. In anticipation the Captain would like to thank you all for your generosity. Captain's Shootout

The boys played some great golf on a course that was still in magnificent condition after hosting The Open.
Many thanks to Royal Portrush who were wonderful hosts. Thanks also to past Captain Eugene Magee and wife Geraldine who travelled and gave great support, it was much appreciated by the team. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Dunfanaghy our Fred Daly Plate team hosted Royal Portrush. The result was 5-2 to Portrush, however the score didn’t reflect the overall tightness of the match with 4 games going down to the final hole. Special mention to Carlos O’Reilly who played a superb round of level par golf and made a wonderful birdie on 18 to win his match. Our visitors from Portrush, led by their head pro Gary McNeill, were very complimentary about the layout and conditioning of the course and have promised to return to stay and play again. Our boys are looking forward to the return leg at Portrush on Friday afternoon.
Open Week concluded just before the weather broke and Sunday evening saw the presentation of the week's prizes. We would like to say a big thank you to all of our generous sponsors and to congratulate all the prize winners. The multi-generational nature our prize winners bodes well for the future. Thank you to all our members and visitors who made our Open Week such a wonderful success and to our Captain, John for organising the weather!
