Leading 3-2 from the home leg the team travelled to Rosapenna for what was always going to be an uphill battle. They proved to be up to the task! Luke Kelly was 2 down after 9 against Enda Kennedy. He fought back to win 2up. Darcy Hogg up thru 12, then 2 down with 2 play. Birdied last 2 holes to go down 19th. Other 3 matches nip and tuck, but ultimately defeated. Darcy birdies 19th for half. Then hits 205 yrd 6 iron to 3 ft. to birdie 20th and leave overall match 5-5. Due to fading light Darcy and Frank Casey continued on until the 22nd hole when another incredible birdie from Darcy was enough to take the Dunfanaghy boys through to the semi-finals. What a result and performance from the young Dunfanaghy team. Gents Club Stableford

On Saturday, our senior scratch team with an average age of 15 years (excluding team captain Daniel McColgan!) beat a hugely experienced Rosapenna senior team 3:2. Well done to Darcy Hogg, James Marriott, James Sweeney and Tom McClintock. The eagerly awaited return leg is at Rosapenna next Friday at 4pm. Earlier in the week young James Marriott won the Dunfanaghy Wednesday Open with a fantastic gross one under par, Darcy won the Ulster Under 15 Boys title while Luke Kelly won the Irish Under 17 Championship at Thurles. Mind you the boys didn’t have it all their own way. A fun day was held for the cadets sponsored by the Captains. Every child was a winner with special credit to Niall Moore and Katie McColgan who won their respective age categories. With such unbelievable talent on our doorstep, the future for Dunfanaghy GC is bright. Congratulations to Yvonne Armstrong and John McLaughlin who each got a hole-in-one on Saturday. Yvonne aced the 17th whilst John, celebrating his birthday, holed his magnificent tee shot at the 7th.

We would like to thank you all for the enormous support you have given the club over the summer. Both ladies’ and gents' committees continue to work hard behind the scenes to ensure the survival and success of Dunfanaghy GC. With your support we are weathering the storm. We have had the busiest Open Week for years. Many many players commented on the excellent condition of the course. This is a great credit to green-keeper Paul who, assisted by Robert & Rory, have kept the course in fantastic shape despite their limited budget. With significantly increased numbers playing, Ruth was flat out in the shop and competition secretaries Siobhan Bogues and Sean Quinn certainly had their work cut out. Emma and Ailish pulled more pints during open week than they had all year. We thank them all sincerely for their efforts. We are also indebted to our Open Week sponsors O’Hara & Harrison Electrical, John & Cheryl Chambers, Hickey Clarke & Langan, Shandon Hotel, Pauline & Patrick Hunter, Charles Roarty, Vice Captain Colm Donaghy, Moore’s Holiday Homes, Mick McGinley and Boyce Centra for their generosity. This Saturday is the annual Caravanners’ Classic - historically an opportunity for caravan and holiday home owners to give something back to the club and also raise money for charity. We are grateful to Graham & Natalie for agreeing to organise this year’s event in the current circumstances and we wish them every success. The nominated charities this year are Pieta House, a mental health charity based in Letterkenny and Tidy Towns Association, Dunfanaghy. So please bring €5 with you to the 9th where you will have a chance to win a lady's or gent’s golf bag for nearest the pin or the latest Srixon G Star Tour balls (courtesy of the Captain!) if you land within the circle. You may also be interested in a charity golf matchplay event organised by “CAUSE” - a mental health charity based in Northern Ireland. https://www.cause.org.uk/matchplay-for-mental-health-2020 Finally, we have 3 “house-keeping” issues for your information: 1. given that implementation of the Government’s Phase 4 has been deferred, we can only offer a bar service if we are providing food. Unfortunately the excellent gourmet take-away service provided by John & Amanda Quinn will only be available at week-ends so we apologise that we cannot open the bar Monday to Friday. 2. we need used golf balls for the shop so please gather up any old balls you are unlikely to use, give them a quick scrub, and leave them in with Ruth or Mary. 3. we would like to clarify a local rule regarding holding (retracting) the flag-stick with your putter while another player putts. This is to prevent the ball unfairly striking the thickened flagstick, particularly if the flagstick is leaning towards you. This local rule is entirely within the ethos of fair play, complies with Covid19 precautions and is supported by the GUI. We hope you will continue to enjoy what is left of the summer and good luck to those participating in “Caravanners”. with kind regards Bill & Paula Captain & Lady Captain Centenary Cup (Golfer of the Year) Stroke

This is a very popular annual 4 person team event and is open to Dunfanaghy members and visitors alike. Dunfanaghy Golf Club members and non-members affiliated to holiday homes or caravans in the area will play for the main Caravanners' Prize. Visitors who do not fulfil the above criteria will play for a separate Visitors’ team prize. This year’s nominated charity is Pieta Northwest. The timesheet is rapidly filling up for this great fun team event so don’t delay. We looking forward to seeing you on the 15th.
As the sun sets on the last day of a very busy Open Week at Dunfanaghy Golf Club, we would like to take a moment to thank all of our generous competition sponsors. A thank you also to all of the competitors over the past eight days. There were lots of very impressive scores returned throughout the week by low and higher handicap competitors alike, even if the weather was not always summer-like.
Congratulations to all the prize winners. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions there will not be a prize giving event this year. Prize winners can contact Mary or Ruth on 00353 7491 36335 to arrange collection of prizes. Dunfanaghy Open Classic
