On Wednesday 15th August, 30 of the club’s most promising young golfers turned up to compete in the Captain’s/Lady Captain’s Prize to the juniors. Captain Peter and Lady Captain Janice warmly welcomed all the competitors and put up a beautiful array of prizes. They also provided a large bag of goodies for the boys and girls to enjoy on their way around the course. The quality of golf in all sections was exceptional. In the senior boys section, both James Sweeney and Luke Kelly shot five over par while Conor Hanna won the gross on three over par. However, in the main event, nobody could catch Max Roarty who had a fantastic score of 44 points. In the girls section, Una Burke won while Aimee Bonar finished second. In the intermediate boys section, Lucas Wood was the clear winner, showing some excellent skills. Lucas is certainly one to keep an eye on for the future. Conor McColgan was second while Ryan McCallion was third. Finally, in the Cadet’s section, no one could keep up with Jack Hanna who won by a clear margin from Tadhg Burke in second and Aidan McFadden in third. This was a fantastic event for all the boys and girls and shows that the junior section in the club is going from strength to strength. Thanks to all those who helped out last Wednesday and to the staff at the club who, as always, looked after the kids so well. The standard of golf on display was excellent, with a number of matches recording sub-par scores. Many thanks to the large number of members who came out to support the boys, led by Club Captain Peter Sullivan. The support was much appreciated by this talented next generation of Dunfanaghy golfers. Mr Peter Sullivan's Captain's Day

President Sean Ferriter and Lady President Pauline Hunter gave a warm welcome to all the boys and girls who participated in the first of this summer’s two major competitions. The standard of golf in all sections was exceptional. The senior boys teed off first and there were birdies galore in a competition that demonstrated that we have some of the best young golfers in the province playing at Dunfanaghy. The eventual winner was David Daly who picked up his first major competition win with an exceptional score of 41 points. Carlos O’Reilly was second followed closely by James Sweeney in third. In the girls section, again there was some fabulous talent on display. The winner was Una Burke, followed by Eavie McCaffrey in second. In the intermediate boys section, we had a very close finish with Max Roarty winning by the narrowest of margins from Lucas Wood in second. Michael Dolan, returning from a recent injury, was third. Finally, the cadets section was won by one of our most promising young golfers Matthew Wilkinson. Matthew had three birdies in the eight holes played by the cadets. Tadhg Burke was second with Danny McColgan in third. Many thanks to all those who helped out not only last Thursday but also in the weekly Saturday morning competitions run by the junior committee, led by Brian Dolan and Daniel McColgan. In their addresses to the prizewinners, both Presidents commended the players on the remarkably high standard of golf they witnessed and on a very successful day all round. They also reminded them that golf is a game they will have with them for the rest of their lives. Thanks also to the staff of the golf club who ensured that all the boys and girls were extremely well fed before finishing up at the end of a very successful and enjoyable day. Fred Daly Plate
The Dunfanaghy junior boys team travelled to Ballyliffin on Friday night for a last 16 1st leg match in the Fred Daly Plate. On a majestic evening for golf in North Donegal, the boys produced a great display of golf to win 4 1/2 to 2 1/2. A strong team performance, with highly competitive individual matches sets the boys up well for the return leg on Sunday 19th at Dunfanaghy.
