At a meeting of Dunfanaghy Golf Club's Gents Committee on Friday 15th February the principle of 'Ready Golf' was adopted with immediate effect. Ready Golf is a common sense approach for stroke and stableford play formats that will help golfers move more efficiently and effectively around the course.
Taken directly from the GUI's Pace of Play Awareness Week, we give you some common sense tips for improving pace of play in your own four-ball. All of these are provided as guidance, and to be used only when safe to do so. 1 Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options 2 Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait 3 Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play 4 Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball 5 Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else's line 6 Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker 7 When a player's ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is having to walk to their ball and assess their shot 8 Marking scores upon immediate arrival at the next tee, except that the first player to tee off marks their card immediately after teeing off Gents Club Stableford

Thank you to all of you who braved the elements last night and turned up for our update on the new rules of golf. Everyone who was there agreed that it was a worthwhile exercise and a very informative evening. Thanks to Billy McCaul from The GUI and Treena Boyde from the IGLU for their excellent presentation and for their patience in answering the many questions asked of them. Thank you to Mary for setting it up, to Sarah for the refreshments and to Andy and Siobhan for helping with the amplification.
