Dear Member,
We’re sure you’re as frustrated as we are at the lack of access to our golf course. We eagerly await a date from the Taoiseach when we can resume play. However, amidst the gloom there is some good news. Many of you will have read Jonny McClintock’s excellent article in the local press and on social media about our fantastic elite junior golfers. Our Dunfanaghy juniors certainly punch above their weight: Luke Kelly is the current Ireland Under 17 champion and previously an Ulster Under 16 Close Champion; James Sweeney is on the Ulster Under 16 panel (having previously been on a victorious Ulster Under 14 team) and Evan Hogg is in the Ulster Under 14 panel whilst big brother Darcy is Ireland’s leading Under 16 player winning the 2020 GUI Order of Merit. We are, rightly, very proud of the boys’ achievements. More good news came from Golf Ireland recently when the Club was awarded a grant of €23,500 to go towards projects ensuring the Club’s future sustainability. The grant monies will be used to upgrade the Club’s IT system and the installation of solar panels to reduce running costs. As stipulated by Golf Ireland, grant money cannot be used to pay off any part of the Club’s debt nor, unfortunately, can it be used to offset members’ annual subscriptions. We have also applied for a separate Government Sports Capital and Equipment Grant for 5 new electric golf buggies. This would be a very welcome addition as the Club’s existing buggies are on their last wheels! Some sadder news. Ruth has decided to leave the Club for pastures new at Letterkenny Golf Club. Ruth has always been a friendly face in the shop and bar. We wish Ruth every success in her new venture. We look forward to seeing you in person hopefully in the not-too-distant future. With kind regards Bill and Paula Captains The McGinley Motors Scratch Cup
Due to the current Covid 19 restrictions, Dunfanaghy Golf Club has taken the decision to postpone the McGinley Motors Scratch Cup that was due to be contested on Saturday 17th April 2021. We hope to reschedule the competition later in the year when restrictions are eased. We can't welcome you back to Donegal just yet but you can start planning your escape now!
