It is with regret we announce the death of Brian McGinley, Main Street, Dunfanaghy. Brian has been a member of the Club for many years. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with his wife Brid and family, his brother Neil a Trustee, past Captain and a very active member of the club over many years. Brian was an electrician by trade. His expertise was often called on when we had any electrical issues at the Club. He was a true gentleman to work with and could be called upon at any time of the day or night. Dunfanaghy Golf Club will not be the same without him. He will be sadly missed by us all. Brian was first and foremost a great GAA man. His love for his local club St Michaels was plain to be seen having been Treasurer there for over 30 years and has held the role of President at the Club for many years to this present day. He will be sorely missed by all at the St. Michael’s Club. Brian was predeceased by his son Patrick in 1991 another great GAA man whom Brian often talked of with fondness. Brian’s funeral will take place on Wednesday the 16th June at 12 noon in Holy Cross Church Dunfanaghy with burial afterwards to the adjoining cemetery. Due to HSE and Government Guidelines funeral and burial are private to family and close friends with a maximum of 50 people permitted. May Brian’s gentle soul rest in peace. Dear Members,
Due to the uncertainty surrounding Government COVID restrictions, we have had to curtail our Presidents’ Days. In summary: Lady President’s Day will be held on the same day as that of the President, namely 17th July. Time slots are not allocated on basis of gender. Unfortunately there will be no Presidents’ Guests, and the time-sheet is open to members only. There will be no Presidents’ Mixed Foursomes or Scramble. The President’s Prize to the Ladies, and the Lady President’s Prize to the Gents will be held on 3rd July. We hope to be able to hold a Presentation of Prizes (weather permitting) on the evening of the 17th July. There are still some other arrangements to be finalised, and these will follow asap. Apologies to anyone adversely affected, but these are uncertain times. Denis Martin, President Alayne Treacher, Lady President Spring/Summer Cup (Golfer of the Year) Stroke

The golfing season is now well underway at Dunfanaghy and our course is in fantastic condition. Golf Ireland inter-club tournaments will be commencing in the next couple of weeks and we wish all our teams well. As many of you will be aware, Geraldine has joined the staff of the Club and will be working alongside Mary in the shop and office. Please make a point of introducing yourselves and we wish Geraldine every success in her new role. We are very excited to announce that “Michael Angelo” have taken over the bar and catering service at the Club. The boys have developed a superb reputation for the quality of their food in the past 3 years at Portnoo and we are very lucky to have them. You will not be disappointed by the quality of their cuisine. So please give Mick, Angelo & their team your support. Smart Cards As you are all aware, members were not charged a social levy this year. However many members have retained a positive balance on their Smart cards through unspent money last year or through monies earned from competitions. Unfortunately it is not possible for Smart cards to be used at present for purchases of food or drink at the bar. The IT system used by Michael Angelo is not compatible with the Club’s antiquated IT set up. We are in the process of upgrading the Club’s IT system and we hope that the issue with Smart cards will be addressed in the coming weeks. Members can still use their Smart cards to enter competitions and make purchases in the shop. Smart card balances can also be used to offset members’ subs for next year. In the meantime purchases at the bar (food & drink) can be made using credit/debit cards. If you are lucky enough to win a monetary prize in a Club competition, you can receive a “GUI” voucher rather than having your Smart cards topped up. If you wish to avail of this option please let Mary or Geraldine know. Finally we have a reciprocal arrangement with our neighbours at Cloughaneely Golf Club for reduced entry to their weekly open competitions (€10 for 9 holes; €15 for 18 holes). So if you want to experience a challenging parkland course nearby, Cloughaneely Golf Club in Falcarragh would be a great choice. This summer is going to be a belter at Dunfanaghy Golf Club. Let’s enjoy it. Kind regards Bill & Paula Captains We are very excited to announce that “Michael Angelo” have taken over the bar and catering service at the Club.
