We had the Junior Awards on Saturday night to celebrate a number of successes. Mick McGinley was there to award the Paul McGinley Cup and trophy to Tom McClintock and David Daly respectively. Mick then delivered a heart-warming speech about the values that golf can bring and how golf has touched his life since becoming a member of Dunfanaghy GC as a young teenager. Paul Kelly then talked through the stunning success of the Junior teams i.e. the progress through to the Finals weekend in the Fred Daly plate in Holywood before being beaten by Portrush 4-3. Then came the highlight where Paul outlined the path to success in winning the Donegal Under 16 competition. To help put this into context the club was founded in 1906, this is only the 5th pennant in the clubs history and the second that this group of lads have brought home. Congratulations to Captain Paul and his squad for a stunning year. Seamus McMonagle followed this up and urged the lads to go deep in the next few years and bring home the Fred Daly Cup. Proceedings were finished off with tokens of appreciation from Carlos O’Reilly to the management and coaches i.e. Brian Dolan, Daniel McColgan, James Sweeney, Cathal Daly and Paul Kelly whose collective hard work helps to make a success of the Juniors and finally a word of special thanks to the membership and staff for keeping watchful eyes on the young players and making the golf club a safe and welcoming environment.
