Damian Mooney (Damian Mooney Golf) fired a second round 62 (-6) to win the 36-hole Dunfanaghy Pro-Am by three shots. Mooney and 2017 champion, David Higgins (Waterville Links), were locked together at the close of play on day one following opening rounds of 64 (-4). “It's a nice test of golf, you have to respect it and think your way around,” said Mooney who won this tournament back in 2007, shooting rounds of 60 and 61. “It's a fantastic tournament. The members embrace it. They have 52 teams and a lot of ladies playing, some juniors as well.” The 50-year-old from Belfast stepped up the pace on day two reaching the turn in three under par 30, he came home in three under par 32 to sign for a two round total of 10 under par. “I probably played better on Saturday but I managed to score better on Sunday,” added Mooney. “I just holed a few more putts in the second day.” Higgins finished alone in second on seven under par following a second round 65 with Brian McElhinney (North West) and Tim Rice (Limerick GC) tying for third on six under par. Roy O'Neill (Galway GC) and amateur partners Conor McGettigan, Oran McGettigan and Clive Davidson won the team event with 189 pts (92/97).
