Our 24 For 24 Charity Event was a great success over the past weekend (Fri 23rd/Sat 24th June 2023); 32 brave golfers took to the course to attempt to play golf for 24hrs - each one of them trying to play 5 18-hole rounds of golf with a short break between each round. Through the day & into the night they all played & 10am on Saturday morning 31 of them successfully completed the challenge. Amazing!!! I think all the participants deserve a mention for attempting & achieving this & a huge well done to all: June T Nelson, Gillian Robinson, Deborah Moore, Theresa Farrell, Heather Mairs, Andrew Kelly, Carlos O’Reilly, Finn Dalton, Malcolm Allan, Tommy Reidy, John McGarvey, Jim McLaughlin, Rory McLaughlin, John McLaughlin, John Ryan, Conan Brennan, Eoghan Kelly, Oisin Langan, Brendan McGrath, Chris Monroe, Jamie Gillespie, Christy Galligan, Fergal Callan, Brendan Kelly, Michael Kelly, Gerald Dalton, Tony McGilloway, Michael McColgan, Daniel McColgan, Noel McGinley, Sam Sterritt, Karl Kelly. The event’s aim was to raise as much money as we could for the Creeslough Disaster Fund, the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland & the Irish Society for Autism & so far we have raised almost €21,000 on our GoFundMe page & over €9,000 from other sponsorship, raffles & the Classic on Saturday 24th June. If you’d still like to donate please goto gofund.me/f2debdb1 There are so many people to thank for helping make this event the success it was; President Tony McGilloway for having the idea & seeing it through to the end; the Management Committee, Captain Raymond Shields & Lady Captain Siobhan Bogues for their support in organising; Mary Lafferty for her support with all manner of logistics; the caterers & bar staff who kept the participants fed & watered through the 24hrs; the main sponsors of the event Mc Ginley Motors, The Kilmac Group, Smiley Munroe and Paddy Farry plus all those who sponsored Tee Boxes for the Classic; everyone who donated money & time; and off course the 32 who were brave enough to give it a try. We’re pretty sure no one has succeeded in doing this challenge before - though some have tried - so well done to you all. Just under two weeks to go until the big event on 23rd/24th June. The GoFundMe page is open for donations so please click gofund.me/f2debdb1 to make a donation & share the link with as many people as you can so we can raise as much as possible for the Creeslough Disaster Fund, the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland & the Irish Society for Autism. The fund-raising efforts are going well, between the Go Fund Me page & sponsorship we have currently raised nearly €15,000 – big thanks to everyone who has donated. Below we have put together videos with a few great endorsements from some famous faces & local heroes. The Management Committee would also call on any Club members or members of their family with medical, nursing, paramedic or physiotherapy experience to volunteer to assist over the 24-hour period of the event to ensure we can provide a safe and supportive environment for those taking part. We will also need a number of people to act as stewards during the hours of darkness. Anyone willing to volunteer their support please contact Mary in the Golf Club office. Thanking you in advance for your support. |
