Mixed Double Champions announced for 2023

Thursday 2nd November 2023 saw the final of the mixed doubles - Paul Smyth & Pauline Smyth vs Mary Lafferty & Brendan McGrath; the match was played in blazing sunshine & lightening fast greens. Early holes were exchanged and it was clear that this match was going all the way. Team Smyths dropped it a gear with a run of 5 pars from the 7th to the 12th to move them 3 up in the match up. They thought it was all over!!!! BUT...
Mary & Ohhh ahh McGrath did not panic and needed a Win on the 18th to force a play off. Great drive from Mary and a solid iron from Ohhh ahh gave a tap in par with Paul having a 15 foot putt to win the title. Putt was missed. Play off holes required.
Both teams had great drives down the first, and the Smyths lipped out for par handing the title to Mary Lafferty & Ohhh ahh McGrath.
Amazing match and played in great spirit. Congratulations to all who participated in the competition and to the green keepers who have the course in fantastic condition.
Apparently celebrations went late into the night as champagne was sprayed by the winning team in the car park to the sound of chants from the watching crowd of 'We are the champions'.
