We’re really looking forward to the Caravanners’ Classic on Saturday. It is a social occasion to celebrate the golfing year where local and holiday members come together for an end of summer event. Now in its 34th year this popular competition is confined to Dunfanaghy Golf Club members and those who have caravans or holiday homes in the Dunfanaghy, Portnablagh, Marble Hill, Creeslough and surrounding area. There is a great entry this year and your entry fee includes a meal in the clubhouse after your round. After all the excitement of the Lady Captain and Captain’s Day last weekend we expect a great buzz in the clubhouse. Over the years the Caravanners’ has raised considerable funds for local and national charities and this year the charity is the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association https://imnda.ie/ This is a very important charity providing care and support to people with MND, their families, friends and caregivers. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching the muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order. The cause of MND is not known. There may be environmental factors that trigger the damage in people who are susceptible to the disease. On going research is necessary to find out the nature of these environmental factors, and what makes one person more susceptible than another. MND strikes people of all ages and currently there is no cure, however symptoms can be managed to help the person achieve the best possible quality of life. There are currently more than 420 living with MND in Ireland and registered with the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Dunfanaghy Golf Club is pleased to support this important charity and we thank those who will play in the event and all those who sponsor or make a donation ( you can do so via the golf shop). We look forward to a great day! This past weekend saw Dunfanaghy Golf Club host Lady Captain Siobhan Bogues' Day on Friday 11th August & Captain Raymond Shields' Day on Saturday the 12 August. While the weather was a bit dismal for August the craic & the golf was mighty.
