Paul McGinley and Joe Bedford from Paul McGinley Design, https://paulmcginleydesign.com/ yesterday, shared with members their vision for the future of Dunfanaghy Golf Club. Paul and Joe walked the fairways with members on a very breezy and sometimes wet afternoon to bring to life for members their plans for the redesign of some of the holes at the eastern end of the course.
Later in the evening, Paul presented to a packed club house and many more members on Zoom. This resulted in a resounding endorsement from members for all of Paul's plans. We look forward to the next steps on this exciting journey. We would all like to express our immense gratitude to Paul and Joe for all their incredible efforts and their generosity. Watch this space!

Ryder Cup Captain and great friend of Dunfanaghy Golf Club, Paul McGinley took time out of his busy schedule to meet with the club's young golfers. Paul presented the winner of the Paul McGinley Cup, Lucas Wood with his trophy. Paul also chatted to the young golfers and kindly posed for some photos, making it a memorable day for our juniors and their parents. We cannot thank Paul enough for taking such an interest in the future of our club.
Thursday 2nd November 2023 saw the final of the mixed doubles - Paul Smyth & Pauline Smyth vs Mary Lafferty & Brendan McGrath; the match was played in blazing sunshine & lightening fast greens. Early holes were exchanged and it was clear that this match was going all the way. Team Smyths dropped it a gear with a run of 5 pars from the 7th to the 12th to move them 3 up in the match up. They thought it was all over!!!! BUT...
Mary & Ohhh ahh McGrath did not panic and needed a Win on the 18th to force a play off. Great drive from Mary and a solid iron from Ohhh ahh gave a tap in par with Paul having a 15 foot putt to win the title. Putt was missed. Play off holes required. Both teams had great drives down the first, and the Smyths lipped out for par handing the title to Mary Lafferty & Ohhh ahh McGrath. Amazing match and played in great spirit. Congratulations to all who participated in the competition and to the green keepers who have the course in fantastic condition. Apparently celebrations went late into the night as champagne was sprayed by the winning team in the car park to the sound of chants from the watching crowd of 'We are the champions'. We’re really looking forward to the Caravanners’ Classic on Saturday. It is a social occasion to celebrate the golfing year where local and holiday members come together for an end of summer event. Now in its 34th year this popular competition is confined to Dunfanaghy Golf Club members and those who have caravans or holiday homes in the Dunfanaghy, Portnablagh, Marble Hill, Creeslough and surrounding area. There is a great entry this year and your entry fee includes a meal in the clubhouse after your round. After all the excitement of the Lady Captain and Captain’s Day last weekend we expect a great buzz in the clubhouse. Over the years the Caravanners’ has raised considerable funds for local and national charities and this year the charity is the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association https://imnda.ie/ This is a very important charity providing care and support to people with MND, their families, friends and caregivers. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching the muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order. The cause of MND is not known. There may be environmental factors that trigger the damage in people who are susceptible to the disease. On going research is necessary to find out the nature of these environmental factors, and what makes one person more susceptible than another. MND strikes people of all ages and currently there is no cure, however symptoms can be managed to help the person achieve the best possible quality of life. There are currently more than 420 living with MND in Ireland and registered with the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Dunfanaghy Golf Club is pleased to support this important charity and we thank those who will play in the event and all those who sponsor or make a donation ( you can do so via the golf shop). We look forward to a great day! This past weekend saw Dunfanaghy Golf Club host Lady Captain Siobhan Bogues' Day on Friday 11th August & Captain Raymond Shields' Day on Saturday the 12 August. While the weather was a bit dismal for August the craic & the golf was mighty.
Thanks to everyone who made the weekend such a great success. Cathy & Leanne for the wonderful food. Mary, James, Lucas & Connor in the office, shop & bar. The Greenkeepers for keeping the course in such fabulous condition. All the ladies who brought goodies for the afternoon tea & flowers for the beautiful displays around the club. And off course to both our Captains Siobhan Bogues & Raymond Shields - we hope you both enjoyed your days as we certainly did.
