Dunfanaghy Club Classic
The Dunfanaghy Club Classic was held on Saturday 27th May. The day started with a return of the liquid sunshine but luckily the rain never became as heavy as forecast. Conditions were difficult with the rain and wind causing problems for everyone. However good scores were returned with the first two places on the day being filled by a four ball who were out very early in the day and a team out late in the afternoon.
Dunfanaghy Golf Club would like to thank all of our sponsors and everyone who played on the day for making the Club Classic a great success!

Our club classic takes place this Saturday 27th May. Thank you to all of you who have already entered a team or sponsored a Tee box. As this is the Club’s main fundraiser for the year, it would be very much appreciated if we could get some more members to take part. You can do this by entering a team, sponsoring a Team or Tee box. The weather forecast is very good for the weekend so please come along and support your club. Presentation of Club Classic prizes and the Hickey, Clarke & Langan prizes will take place at approximately 9pm followed by entertainment. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
The last few weeks have been busy at Dunfanaghy Golf Club. The Ulster Cup team posted a good result with a 5-2 win at home against Omagh Golf Club. Unfortunately lady lucky did not shine on our boys in the return leg at Omagh, with Omagh progressing to the next round. We wish Omagh Golf Club the best of luck in the competition. We have the Club Classic next week on Saturday 27th May. If you haven’t entered a team yet, you will need to hurry as the time sheet is filling fast. Sunday the 21st May saw Dunfanaghy host the local qualifying for the GUI Irish Mixed Foursomes. Dunfanaghy qualified in joint first place with City of Derry with a score of 276. The match play rounds commence at Letterkenny with Dunfanaghy meeting Buncrana. We wish them well in the next round.
The Gents' Challenge Cup and Club Mixed Foursomes is underway. Please refer to the draw and deadlines to ensure all matches are completed on time. Good luck to all in these matchplay competitions.

Next Saturday, 20th May is our Open Hickey, Clarke & Langan Competition. Now in its 35th year, great credit must go to Joe and Mary Langan for their continued commitment in sponsoring this competition for both Ladies and Gents. In recognition of what they do for the club, can I ask you please to give them and the club your support by taking part in the competition. As you know the Hickey, Clarke & Langan is an open single stableford competition. Please spread the word to all your golfing friends, their participation would also be greatly appreciated. The presentation for this competition will take place the night of the Club Classic on Saturday 27th May.
We wish Joe well and hope that both himself and Mary will be in the clubhouse to present the prizes on the night. On behalf of everyone at the Club, thank you both for your support down through the years I can assure you that it is very much appreciated.
The weather finally broke at the weekend, however a little liquid sunshine did not dampen the spirits. The youngish Barry Treacher achieved his first ever 'hole in one' on Saturday at the second hole. Barry and his playing partner, Colm went on to score a very tidy 43 points in the 4BBB. Afterwards the bar very quickly sold out of Champagne! Well done Barry.

As you know our Club Classic takes place on Saturday 27th May. This is the Club’s Annual Fundraiser. To make it the success we would all like it to be, we need you all to participate. The classic is open to visitors so there is no reason why you cannot enter a team with your friends who are members of another club. If for some reason you cannot enter a team on the day perhaps you would like to sponsor a hole at €50.00 or sponsor a team at €80.00. A sincere thank you to Shaun Boyce of Centra in Dunfanaghy for once again agreeing to be our main sponsor. I would also like to thank our own members and suppliers who have already agreed to sponsor a tee or team. Looking forward to seeing you all on the day. Music will be supplied in the bar after the presentation in the evening, bring your dancing shoes and let’s make the day and the night a great success.
