Dear Members,
We hope that everyone remains safe and well during the current Covid restrictions. As many of you will be aware, the lockdown in Northern Ireland has been extended until early March and given the prevalence of disease and the enormous pressure that health services are facing across the island, it is likely that restrictions throughout Ireland will be extended. Given the obvious health benefits of getting regular exercise and the fact that the risk of contracting Covid-19 on the golf course is remote, we share your frustrations that we can’t access the links. Our golfing unions have been lobbying Government but to no avail. Despite the closure, works continues both on and off the course. Paul and his staff continue to make improvements to the course whilst office staff and committee members are working behind the scenes with grant applications etc. To date we have held back on issuing subscription invoices for the coming year. However many of the running costs continue despite the current lockdown. Indeed the annual “subs” meet only 40% of the Club’s annual expenditure. To that end, we will be issuing the 2021 subscription invoices soon. The social levy will not be charged this year (although members can still put money on their Smart cards as before and receive discount in the shop and bar when we reopen). Therefore to meet our necessary ongoing costs we would urge you to pay your subscriptions as soon as possible. If you would like to pay by electronic banking, then you can do so using the bank details in the email you will have received. Please advise the club by email when you have made the payment so that you can be issued with a payment receipt. To quote Aristotle: “patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet” so please hang in there and we look forward to seeing you all in Dunfanaghy soon. Bill and Paula Captain & Lady Captain

We note with regret that the Irish Government have reinstated the original Level 5 restrictions, which confirms the closure of golf courses along with all other sporting facilities in the Republic of Ireland. The Department of Sport have confirmed to us that the restriction on golf and other sports will be effective from midnight on 30th December.
We urge all of our affiliated clubs to continue to adhere to the public health restrictions and we will remain engaged with the government authorities of both jurisdictions to ensure the return of our sport across the island of Ireland as soon as possible. Dear Members,
We have just received an urgent communication from the Irish Government via Golf Ireland dated 24th December. With immediate effect, golfers playing in groups (2 3 or 4 balls) will be restricted to participants from no more than two households. At Dunfanaghy Golf Club, in order to comply with Government Level 5 restrictions, the following measures have been implemented with immediate effect: 1. Members only until 12th January 2021 Unfortunately society and visitor bookings have been cancelled. 2. Social golf only. All competitions have been suspended until 12th January. We will be amending the timesheets on Boxing Day. In order to facilitate this, we would very much appreciate if you could cancel / amend your own bookings to comply with the new "2 household” rule. With limited daylight hours, and to give as many members as possible access to the course, we would ask that you consider playing in family groups if possible. We realise that this will have a very significant impact on those wishing to play golf over the festive season but nevertheless we hope you will be able to enjoy safe, social golf. Despite the bah humbug, we really do wish you all a very merry Christmas! Bill and Paula McCallion Captain & Lady Captain Gents Open Stableford
